Answer to My Prayers

The clouds parted
While my love and I
Were lying together
And He told me
You see what I have given you?
She is your equal
But she is different
Do not be a fool
She has a soul
And a heart
That can be broken
Protect her

From now on
You can never say
That I was not listening
I have heard your cries
For a woman
Who can quench your longing
And she is there
In your arms now
She longs too
And has waited her whole life
For someone like you

I do not require thanks
All I ask
Is that you spread
The love you create
And remove darkness
From this confused world
In that way
You serve me
The best that anyone can
And make this world better
For your fellow man

I Stand in Awe- Written on this Day- For Carolina

How do I love thee?
I just can’t count the ways
You bring my days
Alive
I thrive in your presence
Your essence
Has become a part of me
Your beauty
Has penetrated my heart
My love is a paradox
You make me feel
Like both a man and a child
Simultaneously
My soul stands naked and bared
Healing, reeling
I’m almost scared
I’ve never had
This feeling before
And I would never want it to end

Complacency
Is our only enemy
Everything else is our friend
Because we radiate love
Blessed by God above
We are a force for good
We both know
This is our natural course
We both know
We will face what is ahead
Together
We will swear our love in bed
And before all

The last sight I want to see
Before death casts it pall
Is your eyes
Telling me
That’s it okay to go
Then I will know
That we’ve done
All we can
And I can die
A happy man

Pure Freedom 1/22/10

My fingers fly across the page
In a beautiful rage
A pure rush
Of unprecedented joy
My heart is alive
I would walk through rain
Snow
Hurricanes
To be where she lies
My only sadness
Comes from the thought of
How I have compromised
In the past
But that notion is eradicated
As I realize
All that is gone
My life can move on
And oh God what I have
To look forward to
Her smiles, her quirks
The most peaceful satisfied gaze
As I watch her breasts rise and fall
In her sleep
What days these will be
Is this perpetual ecstasy?
I may yet find out

To bask in the love
Of someone so wise
Someone who cares
Someone who dares
Bare their soul for me
As I must do for her
A once in a lifetime find
That will never leave my mind

My Body for Her 1/24/10

What is my body?
It is an extension of her
It is an instrument
Of happiness, of pleasure, of joy
Sometimes a salve for sadness
But always functional
In the role of pre-eminent partner

Our united body grows
And changes
Should it not be so?
If our bodies ceased to grow
Where would we be?
I shudder to think
Of the darkness
That would descend
If we were apart
That I left behind
As we travel through
A lifetime of love

We nourish each other
Revel in each other
She is like the sunshine
That breaks through the clouds
After a spring rain
And I am the steam
That rises from the street
To go to her

As my body always will
From now till forever

Inspired by St Pauls first letter to the Corinthians chapter 12 verse 12-30

Come, My Love 2/13/10

Close your eyes
Clear your head
It’s time for us
To go to bed
Approach me with
An open mind
I am very sure
That what you will find
Is a man whose soul
Bleeds and prays
A man who longs
For peaceful days
A man whose well of love
Remains untapped
Whose heartstrings
Remain unwrapped
Pull the strings
Invade my space
My love will explode
Like a supernova in space
Your doubts and fears
Forever gone
Another big step
In this journey we’re on
Peace and contentment
For your soul
Undying love
From the man you’ve made whole

Awesome 2/11/10

The small flakes fall
And pile up
They are tiny
They pose no threat
Yet they cover objects
A million times their size
That makes them very wise
If any man
Would question his worth
It would be now
For this is when
Mother Nature makes it clear
Who is master of the earth

21st Century Child- 5/9/10

A new light at the start of a new millennium
A jumping off point at the edge of a narrow precipice
The wide gulf of the past cannot contain you
You glide on indestructible wings from one age to the next
With unprecedented power to control your destiny
While the world cascades down an oil slick towards inhumanity,
How will you recognize your soul and nurture it?

It cannot be found by tapping on a keyboard
Its secret is not contained in a social network
You need only look inside yourself
And quietly contemplate
Without the noise of electronic devices
Designed to distract

Walk among the trees
And feel the crush of the dead leaves
Beneath your feet
Take a deep breath
And reap the benefits of Mother Nature’s gift
Humans from the beginning of history
Have taken this walk
And propelled us forward
The signposts are there to read
But you must beware
Misinterpretation has caused endless consternation
The masses prefer the distraction
And the undeveloped self prefers complacency and inaction

You make a basic choice
With your heart, your hands and your voice
Know history well
Separate the bad from the good
And proceed with a purpose
To live a life of freedom and service
Use your time to gain true knowledge
For therein lies true power
Practice carpe diem every waking hour

Starting Now- 5/28/10

I am an American
By birth
But a world citizen
By choice
Hear my voice
Above the din
This is how peace begins
From without
And from within

Look at me
If I am to have worth
Then we must care
For this earth
Diligently
We are the same
This is not a game
The winner
Does not have more
He has less
What he takes away
He must replace
Otherwise he is a disgrace
And he cannot be proud
Of the distress
That he abides

When I look inside
When I look at you
I want to see
The light of joy
Not darkness
That needs to be destroyed
I want us to see
You and me
I and thou
There are no others
We are all
Sisters and brothers
Starting now

Another Victory for Subtlety- May '07

Another Victory for Subtlety

I’ll never forget this one day
I had to make a choice
Which didn’t matter at all
Like a lot of them
I was sitting in my cell
When I heard my neighbor’s voice
Telling me something
About a tennis match
That I had to catch

I was scrolling through the channels
Whizzing by
The advertising panels
I had just a few clicks to go
When I happened to see
Marlon Brando
In a role from 1954
A movie I had seen
Many times before
With a magnetism
You cannot ignore
So now I had to choose
And I felt like either way
I was going to lose
It was a classic contrast
Between present and past
Between subtlety
And sheer force

There were similarities as well
The intensity in both players’ eyes
Is hard to miss
You get the feeling
That they are wise
Beyond their years
The very hardness
Of their stares
Can’t hide the fact
That they are both
Capable of tears

I found myself flipping
Between the two
After all
Every time you watch Brando
You see something new
That’s what subtlety
Is all about
I am also
A pretty devout
Tennis fan
And gazing
At the statuesque beauty
Of Sharapova
Is so amazing
It makes me glad I’m a man

As the Brando movie ended
I was quite certain
Ms. Sharapova wouldn’t be offended
By my divided attention
And as events unfolded
I couldn’t help but think
That the young star
Could learn a lesson
From the old one
Because in the end
Sharapova lost
And Brando won

You know things are
The way they should be
When unrestrained force loses
And subtlety wins again
